Spain confirms first death from monkeypox in Europe

Ministry of Health Spanish said 120 monkeypox patients were currently hospitalized, accounting for 3.2 percent of the 3,750 patients who were informed.

Spain has so far detected 4,298 confirmed cases from 17 different communities, according to the latest report from the ministry.

Madrid recorded the highest number of infections with 1,656, followed by Catalonia with 1,406 and Andalusia with 498 cases.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Spain has the highest number of cases in the ongoing global outbreak, which has been declared a global health emergency.

Earlier on Friday, Brazil also reported its first death from monkeypox outside Africa in the current outbreak.
