President Joan Laporta of the Spanish football club FC Barcelona has expressed cautious optimism about a contract extension with superstar Lionel Messi. “Negotiations with Lionel Messi are going well but are not yet over,” said the 58-year-old: “We are working on making him an offer that is within our means and that he would accept.”
Messi’s contract expires at the end of June. Last summer, the six-time world footballer actually forced his departure from his training club, but stayed with Barca because of his contract. The 33-year-old is repeatedly associated with top clubs such as Manchester City or Paris St. Germain.
