Spain appoints the new coach directly, who is he?

Madrid

Spanish it didn’t take long to name a replacement Luis Enrico. The post of manager of La Furia Roja is now filled Louis of the Source.

Enrique had previously been sent off due to Spain’s poor performance at the 2022 World Cup. The 2010 world champion was defeated by Morocco on penalties in the round of 16.

Though Spain started the tournament impressively with a 7-0 win over Costa Rica but after being stopped 1-1 by Germany and lost 1-2 to Japan.

Enrique’s departure did not want to be mourned for long by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). They immediately named a replacement, namely Luis de la Fuente.

“The RFEF has appointed Luis de la Fuente as the new national team coach. Sporting director Jose Francisco Molina has chosen him and he will report to RFEF president Luis Rubiales,” read an official statement from the RFEF.

Who is it, then Louis of the Source? The man, born in 1961, worked for the RFEF as a youth coach of the Spanish national team.

De La Fuente started with the Under-19 national team from 2013 to 2018, then moved up to the Under-21 side from 2018 to 2022. He was the Spain Under-23 coach when they won a silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

With Spain he won the Under-19 and Under-21 European Cup. While still a player, De La Fuente was one of Athletic Bilbao’s stars in the 1980s, with two LaLiga titles and a Copa del Rey.

De La Fuente’s debut will be when Spain face Norway and Scotland in Euro 2024 qualifiers in March next year.
