Spain is 11 days away from completing two years of the declaration of the state of alarm with its strict confinement due to the coronavirus pandemic. On March 14, 2020, the Government decreed the strictest measure in the face of the unstoppable advance of COVID-19. The virus became almost the only topic of conversation in society and every day the publication of the epidemiological report of Health was anxiously awaited to see and analyze the evolution of the pandemic.
Every day at the beginning of the pandemic, this situation report was published, with its subsequent press conference, where Fernando Simón became one of the most media faces of the moment. The coronavirus continued among us and after a few months, the Ministry of Health decided to publish the data of the pandemic only from Monday to Fridayleaving the weekends free.
Vaccination report: weekly
Neither the respective waves suffered nor vaccination have changed the way of giving data on the pandemic. Until now. And it is that Health announced yesterday a big change starting next week. No more reports from Monday to Friday and from next week two daily reports on the evolution of the coronavirus in our country will be published. Furthermore, regarding the vaccination datathis report becomes weekly and will be published once every seven days.
New COVID-19 surveillance system
It was the Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, who announced this decision yesterday after the celebration of the Interterritorial Health Council. The health minister justified the decision by the “good evolution” that COVID-19 is following in Spain for a few weeks, with a clear downward trend.
Darias, yes, did not advance which days of the week this data will be published, but he did confirm that Health and the rest of the autonomous communities will continue working on the much-desired ‘flu’ of COVID and in a new disease surveillance system.
