Spain adds two deaths and less than 100 new cases in the last 24 hours

The Spanish Ministry of Health recorded 39 deaths caused by covid-19 in the last week, totaling 27,127, with two deaths in the last 24 hours and 96 new cases diagnosed, was released today.

Of the new infections diagnosed, 32 were reported by Madrid and 17 by Castile and León, which have three and six fatalities, respectively, in the last seven days, while Catalonia has risen to 11 dead in the last week and 10 new cases in the last 24 hours.

The figures are made available by the department of Salvador Illa, the Spanish Minister of Health, who on Monday modified the data collection system to obtain individualized information on each case in the autonomous communities, correct series and eliminate duplications.

Considering this last week, there are 2,684 new cases, the vast majority in two communities: Catalonia (1,231) and Madrid (657), followed by Castile and Leon with 285, Castile-La Mancha with 183, Aragon with 96 and Valencian Community with 86.

The data place the cumulative incidence rate (cases diagnosed per 100,000 inhabitants) at 5.71%, although with huge differences according to the regions, ranging from 23.59% in Ceuta and 16.04% in Catalonia at levels below 1% in Melilla, Andalusia, Galicia and Murcia.

The 239,429 confirmed cases that the department has totaled since the start of the pandemic are 201 more than reported on Saturday, although the ministry has warned that it is doing individual case validation, which is why there may be discrepancies in counting the previous days.

In the last 14 days, 6,411 contagions have been confirmed, bringing the cumulative incidence rate to a total of 13.63% in Spain, during that period.

In the last week, 263 people were hospitalized, with the total number of patients requiring hospitalization in health centers being 123,871.

The country enacted a state of emergency on March 14 to halt the expansion of the pandemic, being in the middle of a process of dismantling the measures taken in containment that have different paces in the various regions and ending in late June.

Spain has already announced that it will open its borders, namely to international tourism, from the beginning of July, at the same time that the obligation to fulfill a 14-day quarantine for all who come from abroad ends.

Globally, according to a report by the AFP news agency, the covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 369,000 deaths and infected more than 6 million people in 196 countries and territories.

More than 2.5 million patients were considered cured.
