Spahn currently considers 1,000 new infections a day to be uncritical

The curve had been going down for months. However, daily infections with the corona virus in Germany have now reached a four-digit number. Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn However, after the recent increase, has made it clear that he currently sees no critical threshold exceeded.

“At the moment we are in any case still on a scale with which the health system and the public health service can handle,” said the CDU politician on Thursday to the ZDF “Today Journal”.

“If we stabilize at a certain level now, then we can deal with it. If the numbers continue to increase, it is important for all of us to take care of each other in everyday life and to make additional measures unnecessary.” So all Germans would have to remain vigilant and strictly observe the hygiene rules, Spahn had previously explained.

In the end it had that Robert Koch Institute (RKI) registered more than 1000 new infections within 24 hours for the first time in three months. The health authorities in Germany reported 1045 new corona infections to the RKI within one day, as was said early Thursday morning.

Spahn once again emphasized the general requirement to rely primarily on regional measures in extreme cases. When asked when new restrictions would become necessary, Spahn emphasized that there was not “one number to which everything can be reduced”. “There is the increase factor – so how much more dynamic is the infection process? There is the absolute number of infections. The healthcare system can handle around 1,000 new infections per day.”

A test is pending for travelers from certain areas

The 1000 threshold was last exceeded in May. Then the number tended to decrease, and since the end of July the values have been rising again. The peak of the new infections was reached in early April with more than 6000.

There are currently many small outbreaks at family celebrations, for example, or at work. “The pandemic is not over yet,” said Spahn. Now the vacation was slowly coming to an end, and many were coming back from vacation. That is why there is a risk that the number of infections will continue to rise.

So far, anyone coming from a risk area identified by the RKI had to go straight into quarantine at home for 14 days and report to the health department or submit a negative test result that is at most 48 hours old. As of Saturday, the following applies to these travelers: If you cannot show such a test, you must do it in Germany within 14 days.
