SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket with the Crew Dragon vehicle carrying the NASA-SpaceX Crew-7 mission takes off from the launch pad at Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida, United States, August 26, 2023.
BREVARD, SATURDAY — Four astronauts flew to the International Space Station or ISS on Saturday (26/8/2023) early morning Florida time, United States, or afternoon Indonesian time. They will research the possibility of the development of microorganisms in outer space.
Sending astronauts to the ISS has also “enlivened” the trip to space in recent weeks. On August 24, India made history by landing its Chandrayaan-3 probe near the south pole of the Moon. Previously, on August 11, Russia launched the Luna-25 spacecraft to the Moon, but failed because it crashed into the Moon.
Four astronauts in the NASA program join Crew-7, which is the seventh flight group to fly since a partnership between the US Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and SpaceX, billionaire Elon Musk’s company. SpaceX was contracted by NASA as a service provider for transporting astronauts to space.
Aerospace company Boeing was also contracted by NASA, but their rockets and planes could not take off because there were still problems. Crew-7 was transported aboard the Falcon rocket-launched Dragon spacecraft from the Kennedy Space Center in Brevard, Florida, USA.

The crew leader is US Navy pilot Jasmin Moghbeli. Its members are Andres Morgensen from Denmark, Satoshi Furukawa from Japan, and Konstantin Borisov from Russia. In addition to these four countries, the ISS is a collaboration with Canada and 11 countries in Europe. “We come from different countries and nations, but are united with one mission and goal,” said Moghbeli.
On the ISS, Crew-7 will join seven astronauts from Crew-6. They examined the possibility of microorganisms expelled through the ISS vents could survive in space. In addition, there is also psychic research regarding the difference between sleep on the ISS and on Earth.
The ISS is a station the size of a football field orbiting 418 kilometers above Earth, over the South Pacific. The station was operated for the first time in 2000 and will be retired in 2030. According to the plan, the ISS will be dismantled and after that it will be allowed to burn when it enters the Earth’s atmosphere, then the debris falls into the Pacific Ocean.

Quoted from Space.com, ISS Director Robin Gartens said, ISS, NASA and the US Government are developing a scheme that allows the construction of private space stations under the coordination of NASA. This will save government costs. In addition, it also increases the opportunity for more researchers to fly.

Engineers at the Russian Space Agency (Roscosmos) prepared the Luna-25 spacecraft on August 1, 2023. Two weeks later, Luna-25 failed to complete the mission to reach the south pole of the Moon.
Despite Washington’s feud with Moscow, Russia is still a member of the ISS. In 2022, the Russian space agency, Roscosmos, had stated its intention to leave the ISS in 2025. However, they later withdrew this statement.
According to the Executive Director of the Manned Missions of the Roscosmos Space Agency Sergei Kirkev to the Interfax news agency, Russia will remain on the ISS for an indefinite period of time. At the same time, Russia and China are also developing a program to create stations on the Moon for mining ice with potential as a new fuel.

NASA-Roscosmos cooperation continues. During the 2022-2024 period, three US astronauts flew on Russian Soyuz rockets from Kazakhstan and three Russian cosmonauts flew from the US.
On Thursday (24/8/2023), for example, the Russian-made Progress 85 drone arrived at the ISS. This plane carries 3 tons of supplies for the astronauts, ranging from food to equipment. (AFP)
