SpaceX-Musk: – Warns: – Many will die

A small step for a human being, a giant leap for humanity.

Nearly 52 years have passed since Neil Armstrong uttered the famous words as the first man on the moon in 1969.

In 1972 there was a boom stop: Next year it will be fifty years since the last time a human put his legs there.

The lunar walkers of world history are an exclusive group of only twelve men. Elon Musk wants to do something about it, and the plan is clear.

Dreaming of the room

Recently, Musk and the space company SpaceX were awarded a billion contract with the American space agency NASA.

Thus, Musk can fulfill the dream he should have had for decades. Already in 2001, he went to Russia with the hope of buying three intercontinental ballistic missiles for 20 million dollars, writes Independent.

The then 30-year-old Musk was already looking for success with the payment service PayPal. The rockets were to put in place a greenhouse on Mars that grew plants with soil from the red planet.

The plan went in the sink. The young dotcom millionaire returned empty-handed when the Russians did not take him seriously, according to the newspaper.

Billion-dollar contract with NASA

Instead, he decided to make his own rockets, for a fraction of the price. In 2002, he founded the space company SpaceX.

Almost two decades later, and several hundred billion kroner richer, Musk and SpaceX have secured the contract worth as much as $ 2.9 billion, $ 24.2 billion with the US space agency NASA.

Musk, at the moment the world third richest, won the contract in competition with the world’s richest man Jeff Bezos’ company Blue Origin and the defense company Dynetics Inc, according to Reuters.

It made the entrepreneur move out on Twitter with a tribute: “NASA Ruler !!”

– The next lunar landing should be made as soon as possible. We are aiming for 2024, NASA’s Steve Jurczyk told reporters shortly afterwards.

SpaceX will thus finance the construction of the spacecraft Starship, which is scheduled to fly astronauts to the moon in a few years.

– Never before been possible

The launch vehicle that will launch Starship into space is called “Super Heavy”. Together, the two form a 120-meter-high vessel that will be the most powerful ever developed.

According to Starships user manual, the rocket will open for “activities that have never before been possible in space”.

The vessel will offer “several private rooms, large common areas, centralized storage space, solar storm protection and a view gallery”.

It will eventually be able to carry 100 tonnes of cargo, and up to 100 people at a time.

SPACEX: On Tuesday, February 6, SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy rocket was launched for the first time. Elon Musk’s Tesla Roadster was also on top of the rocket. The rocket is 70 meters long and was designed to transport humans to the moon and Mars. But before that time, the rocket will be tested, and Tuesday’s launch was the start of this. Video: CNN

– Many will die

Musk also has ambitions for Starship to get humans on Mars, very soon.

But in one fresh interview with XPrize founder Peter Diamandis, he admits it will be a risky project.

– To be honest, a bunch of people will probably die in the beginning, Musk says.

He also says that a trip to Mars will be a “long and unpleasant journey”, and adds:

– We will not force anyone. It is voluntary.

By 2050, Musk wants to build 1,000 Starship rockets that send humans and cargo to Mars. The goal in the end is to establish a settlement there. Getting the spacecraft into orbit around the earth will be an important first step.

But first, SpaceX must prove that the Starship rockets can be launched and landed, over and over again.

After completing several successful “test jumps” of 150 meters, they have now made a number of test flights, also at greater altitudes.

The first four of these exploded, but each one reached new milestones. SpaceX’s next hairy sub-goal is to send a Starship into orbit around the earth in July.
