JAKARTA, kilat.com- SpaceX’s Elon Musk carried out another major launch of a number of Starlink internet satellites into orbit and landed a rocket on the ship at sea Tuesday at 7:44 a.m. IST on Wednesday (August 10), days after experiencing weather-related delays.

Falcon 9 rocket carrying 52 Starlink spacecraft, launched from NASA‘s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. According to SpaceX, the first stage booster for the mission has launched the SES-22 and one Starlink mission.

Less than nine minutes after launch, Falcon 9’s first stage returned to Earth for a vertical landing on the SpaceX drone in Florida. SpaceX tweeted that approximately 15 minutes after liftoff, the Falcon 9 upper stage finished accelerating towards lower Earth orbit and successfully deployed the Starlink satellite as intended, Space.com reported.

But what exactly is Falcon 9?

SpaceX’s Falcon 9 is a reusable two-stage rocket that can carry passengers and payload reliably and safely into Earth orbit and beyond. The first reusable orbital class rocket is called the Falcon 9.

SpaceX prioritizes rocket reuse because it sees it as a technological advancement that made the colonization of Mars possible.

Starlink, on the other hand, is a constellation of mega internet SpaceX which broadcasts broadband services to tens of thousands of users worldwide. To date, nearly 3,000 Starlink satellites have been launched by Elon Musk, and many more are yet to be launched. Currently, the space agency has permission to launch 12,000 satellites but has further requested authorization to exceed that figure of 30,000.

The agency’s launch was the 35th orbital flight of the year overall and the 21st Starlink mission in 2022, breaking previous records.

Elon Musk’s aerospace agency SpaceX has launched hundreds of satellites into orbit as part of its ‘Starlink’ initiative, which aims to bring high-speed internet access to specifically inaccessible locations. To speed up connections between satellites, the Starlink satellites are placed in low-level orbits around Earth. (nda)
