TEXAS – Rocket launch SpaceX Falcon 9 from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, United States of America (USA) on Sunday 9 July 2023 night, setting a historic record. Rocket SpaceX’s first-stage thrusters have been recorded as having launched and landed 16 times.
In its 16th launch, the Falcon 9 rocket sent 22 Starlink V2 ‘Mini’ satellites to low-Earth orbit (LEO). The Falcon 9 rocket returns to Earth for its 16th landing, on the deck of a SpaceX drone.
This marks the first time SpaceX has reused its first stage booster 16 times. SpaceX engineers aim to use each Falcon 9 booster to fly at least 20 times.
This is an extraordinary target, considering that most aerospace companies throughout history have only used single-use and discarded rockets. SpaceX’s breakthrough achievements in rocket reuse have revolutionized the space industry, enabling rapid and cost-effective relaunches.
This breakthrough not only significantly reduced manufacturing costs, but also shortened the turnaround time between launches. By reusing rockets, SpaceX has proven that space exploration can be done economically, opening the door to a new era of frequent and affordable space missions.
Currently SpaceX is preparing a new rocket that is more powerful and reusable, namely Starship. The gigantic vehicle, the most powerful rocket ever built, is designed to be fully reusable.
“Both stages of the rocket will be able to fly several times a day,” said SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk quoted by SINDOnews from the Space page, Tuesday (11/7/2023).
