According to forecasters from the Space Force’s Space Launch Delta 45, conditions on Sunday, June 18, are predicted to gradually improve from 60% to 75% “go” during the three-hour launch window. The launch window extends from 6 to 9 p.m. EDT.
Forecasters stated in a report on Friday that a boundary is expected to push south of the Space Coast by Saturday morning, resulting in a more normal summer pattern of coastal sea breeze development over the weekend. Depending on localized convective interactions, storminess should diminish throughout the launch window.
The main concerns for liftoff on Sunday evening are cumulus and anvil clouds, as well as a chance of lightning.
Less Impact on Cruise Ships and Airplanes
During the launch window on Sunday, three cruise ships are scheduled to depart from nearby Port Canaveral. In addition to Sunday’s SpaceX mission, United Launch Alliance teams at the Cape’s Launch Complex 37 are preparing for the second-to-last launch of a Delta IV Heavy rocket before its retirement. The launch is scheduled for 3:29 a.m. EDT on Wednesday, June 21. The mission, called NROL-68, will carry a classified payload for the National Reconnaissance Office.
