Jakarta, CNNIndonesia —
Falcon 9 rocket belongs to SpaceX launched smoothly from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, USA, Saturday (26/7) at 03.27 ET or 15.27 WIB, carrying four astronauts for the US space agency’s Crew-7 mission NASA from four different countries.
They flew first into orbit before being scheduled to dock at the International Space Station (ISS) on Sunday (27/8).
The mission brought astronauts from four different countries; Jasmin Moghbeli of NASA, Andreas Mogensen of the European Space Agency (ESA), Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) astronaut Satoshi Furakawa, and Konstantin Borisov, Russian cosmonaut.
When Dragon’s spacecraft, named Endurance, independently docks on the ISS, the space station’s crew size will increase to 11 within a few days.
What’s their mission?
“Crew-7 is a shining example of the power of American ingenuity and what we can achieve if we work together,” said NASA Director Bill Nelson. NASA.
“Within the station, the crew will conduct more than 200 science experiments and technology demonstrations to prepare for missions to the Moon, Mars and beyond, while benefiting humanity on Earth.”
Nelson said it took many countries to work together to realize this mission.
“By partnering with countries around the world, NASA engages the best scientific minds to carry out our bold missions, and it’s clear that we can do more – and learn more – when we work together.”
The launch was previously scheduled for Friday (25/8). However, NASA announced it was delaying the launch so mission managers could ensure environmental controls and life support systems were functioning properly.
The mission has also been delayed several times before, including twice to make way for a separate mission to deliver the giant Jupiter 3 communications satellite.
Docked at the ISS
The Crew Dragon Endurance capsule is scheduled to reach the ISS on Sunday (27/8) at 08.39 EDT (19.39 WIB). The capsule will dock in a space-facing port on the US-built Harmony module at its outpost.
This will mark the end of a nearly 30-hour journey for the four-person crew of Crew-7.
Quoted from Spaceyou can watch the docking process or docking it’s live on NASA TV and SpaceX, starting at 6:45 a.m. EDT (5:45 p.m. WIB).
“SpaceX, thank you for the ride, it’s been amazing,” said Crew-7 commander Jasmin Moghbeli of NASA after the crew reached orbit. “Go Crew-7, what a ride!”
The Crew-7 mission was SpaceX’s seventh operational commercial crewed flight for NASA, and the eighth for the US space agency as a whole (including manned test flights).
This is SpaceX’s 11th manned mission to include three private astronaut flights in recent years.
