Elon Musk’s space company SpaceX continues to foot the bill for the Starlink internet connection in Ukraine. The day before, the company asked the US government to help with the high costs of satellite connection.
Thanks to around 20,000 so-called Starlink terminals, Ukraine can continue to communicate via a satellite connection if mobile phone networks and internet connections are lost due to the war.
“Although Starlink continues to lose money and other companies that get billions of taxpayer dollars, we continue to fund the Ukrainian government for free,” Musk wrote on Twitter. The company itself has not yet responded to Musk’s tweet.
The entire operation has already cost SpaceX $ 80 million. Musk said Friday his company ran out of money.
The US Department of Defense said it was in talks with SpaceX, but also said the US billionaire’s satellite connection “is not the only option” to maintain communication with Ukraine.
