SpaceX, the aerospace manufacturer and space transportation company founded by Elon Musk, continues to make headlines with its rapid launch cadence. On Monday, March 4, SpaceX successfully launched another batch of 23 Starlink internet satellites from Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. This launch comes just hours after the company’s Transporter-10 rideshare mission and the successful Crew-8 astronaut mission launch to the International Space Station on Sunday.

The Falcon 9 rocket carrying the Starlink satellites took off at 6:56 p.m. ET, and just eight minutes after liftoff, the booster returned to Earth, landing on SpaceX’s droneship named “A Shortfall of Gravitas” in the Atlantic Ocean. This marks the 13th flight for this particular Falcon 9 first stage booster, which has previously flown on eight other Starlink missions, the CRS-27 resupply mission to the ISS, and several private launches.

SpaceX’s Starlink missions have been increasing in frequency, with this launch being the company’s 21st Falcon 9 flight of 2024. The goal of these missions is to build a massive megaconstellation of Starlink satellites in low Earth orbit, providing global wireless, high-speed internet access. Currently, SpaceX has over 5,000 working Starlink satellites in orbit and has received approval to launch up to 12,000.
