Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) finally met with SpaceX boss Elon Musk. So what did the two of them talk about?
Jokowi said the second meeting was in order to follow up on his order to the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan to talk to Elon Musk. According to him, the discussion this time was to discuss future cooperation.
“Following up to my order to talk to Elon about investment, about technology, about innovation, and now I’m here and meet directly with Elon to discuss future cooperation,” Jokowi said in his statement, quoted Sunday (15/5/2022) ).
The meeting took place at SpaceX’s headquarters, Boca Chica, United States (US). Jokowi arrived at the SpaceX Stargate Building at 10.30 local time on Saturday (14/5/2022).

Jokowi came together with Luhut, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, and the Indonesian Ambassador to the US Rosan Roeslani.
Luhut previously leaked this meeting some time ago. In a press conference earlier this week, he said Jokowi would meet with Elon Musk during his visit to the United States.
At that time, Luhut did not specify what the two would discuss at the Jokowi and Elon Musk meeting.

Meanwhile, Luhut himself and several other people met Elon Musk last April. Septian Hario Seto, Deputy for Investment and Mining at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, said the talks were one of the government’s efforts to convince Tesla to invest in Indonesia.
Hario said Indonesia had approached the company since 2021. “Over the last few years the price of nickel has increased significantly, so many manufacturers have chosen not to use nickel. We assured Elon that Tesla can get the supply of Nickel needed and we will make sure its ESG meets Tesla standards,” Hario explained to CNBC Indonesia.
Tesla’s own response, according to Hario, is quite good. They even sent their own team to Indonesia.
“The government wants cooperation to be win-win and that is the bottom line for us,” he said.
