Göttingen – Two at once. A team of Astronomers has now succeeded in being in the immediate cosmic neighborhood of ours Solar system two Supererden to discover. The two Planetswho the star Gliese 887 orbiting are about eleven light years from earth away. They orbit their star in the so-called habitable zone. So at the right distance from the sun, so Life would be theoretically possible on the planet.
Space discovery: It is not yet clear what they are made of
How exactly the nature of the newly discovered Planets the scientists have not yet been able to determine, writes the Austrian daily newspaper “The standard“And invokes the science platform”Science“. The only certainty is that the new discoveries are Supererden acts. So Planetsthat are larger than ours earthbut smaller than the ice giants Uranus or Neptune are. However, it is not yet known whether Gliese 887b and 887c, as they are called, are gas, ice or rock planets. The most famous rock planet we know is ours earth self.
in the universe: The conditions could be optimal for life
So that life as we know it on one Planets certain factors must be met. For example, you must be at an optimal distance from yours Stern to make their way. In this habitable zone it is neither too hot nor too cold. With the star Gliese 887 it is a Red dwarf. It is therefore much smaller and less radiant than our sun. Hence the orbit of the two Supererden accordingly smaller than that of the earth. The year on Gliese 887c lasts only 21.8 days and that of Gliese 887b only 9.3 days. In addition, the Sun only a few Star spots on. That means she is not very active. That in turn is good for them the atmosphere of both Planets. Because so less hit Solar winds on it and so do not remove it.
Hundreds of Earth-like planets have been discovered outside our solar system. What would our world look like if it had been created on such a “super earth”? #HaraldLesch dares a thought experiment. https://t.co/as1FS1bcQe pic.twitter.com/EqRs3smDsd

Space: Astronomers now want to study the atmosphere of the
Another advantage of that Red dwarf Gliese 887 is its constant brightness. This will make it easier for the future James Webb Space Telescope to capture the atmosphere of the Supererden to investigate. The team of astronomers, Sandra Jeffers from the University of Göttingen, says: “These planets will offer the best opportunities for more detailed studies, including the search for life outside of our solar system.”
Scientists have more often Supererden discovered – for example in the constellation Hydra, about 31 light years from Earth. There could also be a super earth near our neighboring star Proxima Centauri. Astronomers have also discovered a planet with water in the atmosphere.
