Space debris attached to the leg of a helicopter on Mars
NASA’s Mars Helicopter Ingenuity has completed its 33rd flight. But this time something unexpected happened. An object that appeared to be unidentified garbage was attached to the helicopter’s landing deck.
During the September 24 flight, Ingenuity NavCam’s navigation camera reportedly captured junk. In the video, Ingenuity flew up with the trash attached to the landing deck until the trash fell during the flight.
According to NASA, the space debris appears not to have been seen on previous flights, and the helicopter’s airflow data is all normal. In other words, it doesn’t appear to be gas garbage. In the update, the Ingenuity team is said to be working on the identity and origin of the garbage.
Ingenuity’s 33rd flight is said to have recorded an altitude of 10m and a travel distance of 111m with a flight time of less than 1 minute. This isn’t the first time space junk has been found on Mars. In July, the Mars Perseverance rover filmed an object that looked like a piece of pasta, and in April Ingenuity also photographed an abandoned parachute from above during the process of landing on Mars.
