S&P Merval Index Falls 2.45% Amid Wall Street Turmoil and ADR Drops

The S&P Merval index fell 2.45% today, affected by reference markets such as Wall Street that ended with negative results, on a day in which the shares of Argentine companies listed in New York fell to 5.2%.

In the Buenos Aires square, the losses of the shares that make up the leading panel were led by Aluar (-7.83%); Ternium (-6.78%); BYMA (-2.55%); BBVA Argentina (-2.33%); and Grupo Financiero Galicia (-2.18%).

The only two papers that closed with positive numbers corresponded to Cresud (6.24%); and Sociedad Comercial del Plata (0.29%)

On Wall Street, the ADRs of Argentine companies ended the session with the majority of results in the red, among which Mercado Libre (-5.2%) stood out; Take off (-4.2%); Galicia Financial Group (-3.3%); BBVA Argentina (-3.2%); and Telecom Argentina (-2.9%).

In the fixed income segment, dollar bonds ended practically unchanged, while CER-adjusted peso bonds posted increases of an average of 0.85%.

Within this framework, the country risk yielded 1.6% to settle at 2,582 basis points.

In the foreign exchange market, the retail dollar closed today at an average of $233.72, with an increase of 84 cents compared to yesterday.

For its part, the so-called “blue” or informal dollar fell one peso, to $468 per unit.

In the stock segment, the dollar counted with settlement (CCL) fell 0.1%, to $448.21; while the MEP advanced 0.2%, to $430.19.

In the wholesale market, the US currency ended with an increase of 50 cents compared to the previous close, at an average of $225.70.

Thus, the dollar with the 30% surcharge -contemplated in the COUNTRY tax-, marked an average of $303.84 per unit, and with the advance on account of the Income Tax of 35% on the purchase of foreign currency, to $385 .64.

Meanwhile, the dollar destined for tourism abroad -and which has a rate of 45%- was located at $409.01, while for purchases over 300 dollars -and which has an additional tax of 25%-, located at $467.44.
