Sozopol will once again host a NATO scientific forum – 2024-09-12 11:15:00

From September 14 to 22, 2024, a scientific forum devoted to the latest achievements in the field of nanomaterials and nanotechnologies used in various areas of security.

The ever-increasing demands on various security sectors, for example in the field of information technology and cyber defense, biotechnology, energy production and storage, early detection and protection against chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear agents are made possible by the use of the latest advances in nanotechnology .

New functional materials, devices and systems allowing control of matter at the atomic and molecular level must meet the security challenges of modern society.

Nanostructured materials possess unique mechanical, electrical, optical, magnetic, and biological properties that are completely different from those of conventional micro- or millimeter-sized materials.

In this sense, nanomaterials and nanotechnologies have the potential to be the main driving forces in the development of new security and safety concepts, requiring the joint efforts of scientists from different countries and from different fields of science – chemistry, physics, biology, materials science and engineering sciences.

Directors of the forum will be Prof. Plamen Petkov from the University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy – Sofia and Prof. Mohamed Ashour from the University of Kenitra, Morocco.

More than 80 scientists from 15 countries, members and partners of NATO (USA, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Hungary, Poland, Ukraine, etc.) participate in it.

Special participation will be taken by representatives of NATO partner countries from the so-called Mediterranean Dialogue involving Morocco and Egypt.

Bulgarian science will be presented at the lectures by Prof. Plamen Petkov from HTMU-Sofia, Prof. Georgi Vaisilov from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” and Prof. Margarita Apostolova from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, and among the young participants there will be representatives of HTMU-Sofia, SU “St. Kliment Ohridski”, Thrace University and several institutes of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.

Along with the intensive scientific program, guests from four continents will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the history and sights of the city of Sozopol, with Bulgarian traditions, culture and cuisine.

This will be the seventh scientific forum in a row, financially supported by NATO under the “Science for Peace and Security” program, which is organized with the assistance of the municipal council and the Municipality of Sozopol.
