Soy fraud may cost Dutch banks $ 245 million

Dutch banks are trying to get back nearly $ 245 million from a bankrupt Argentinian soy trader with a lawsuit in a New York court. The Vicentin company, one of the largest soy suppliers in the world, suddenly went bankrupt in December. The banks believe that money has been diverted through fraud.

It Financieele Dagblad has reviewed documents filed in US court. This shows that ING still has 72 million dollars in credit and Rabobank 23 million. The Dutch development bank FMO has USD 150 million outstanding. This bank is largely owned by the government, but is also partly owned by Rabobank, ING and ABN Amro.

International banks are also affiliated with the charges, involving a total of $ 500 million. Vicentin contradicts the charges. ABN Amro announced this month its withdrawal from global commodities trading.
