Soviet nostalgia – its political, emotional and psychological aspects. Conversation of the festival “Lamp” / Article

On August 20, from 8 pm to 9 pm, it is possible to follow live the conversation of the conversation festival “Lamp” “30 years after the collapse of the USSR. Soviet nostalgia – its political, emotional and psychological aspects.”

30 years after the collapse of the USSR, director Ivo Briedis, journalists Rita Ruduša and Eduards Liniņš, led by producer Gints Grūbe, will discuss Soviet nostalgia – its political, emotional and psychological aspects. During the conversation, excerpts from director Ivo Briežis’ 2021 documentary “Homo Sovieticus” will be shown.

The conversation is led by Gints Grūbe, a producer of the film studio “Mistrus Media”. Participants – journalist, media expert, co-author of the film “Homo Sovieticus” Rita Ruduša, journalist Eduards Liniņš and director of the film “Homo Sovieticus” Ivo Briedis.

The documentary “Homo Sovieticus” will premiere on August 23 at the “Splendid Palace” cinema. “1991. was a turning point in Europe and the world. It was even called the “End of History”. Then the Baltic states regained and strengthened their independent states and the USSR empire collapsed. Witnesses to the end of the last empire of the 20th century were several generations, whose lives, beliefs and values were influenced by this time, ”the film said in the application. “30 years have passed, and director Ivo Briedis together with screenwriter Rita Ruduša in the former Soviet Union meet their peers, who were young at the time of the collapse of the USSR and perceived this historic moment as a scenario of their lives. Although it is believed that the political culture changes during 30 years or one generation, in recent years we see that Soviet arguments are deliberately used to strengthen and shape modern political ideologies both in the former Soviet bloc countries and elsewhere in the world. The “Soviet man” phenomenon has become a kind of virus that allows many to escape and take refuge in the past. “
