The multi-part film “Soviet Jeans” received twelve nominations for the “Lielais Kristaps” National Cinema Award. On the other hand, nine nominations were awarded to the feature film “Black Velvet”, while the documentary film with the most nominations is “Latvijas kods. Einarativs”, which is competing for awards in six categories.
This year, the Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to Ieva Romanova, the film artist and long-time chairperson of the Latvian Cinematographers’ Union. Romanova started working at the Riga Film Studio in 1978 as an artist-director and since then has received five “Big Kristapus” for the best work of an artist.
A total of 88 films have been submitted for the award this year, including 35 feature-length films, nine serial films and 44 short films. Due to the large number of applications, experts nominated by professional institutions worked in two selection commissions: one for feature films and animated films, the other for documentaries.
The commission for feature films and animated films included director Andis Mizišs, film critic Kristīne Simsone, screenwriter Aiva Birbele, director Dace Pūce, cameraman Jānis Eglītis, sound director Yevgenijs Kobzevs, artist Juris Žukovskis, film critic Elīna Reiter, animation film producer Sniedze Kāle and representative of the National Cinema Center Agnese Zapane.
Director Ieva Ozoliņa, director Dzintra Gek, director Uģis Olte, cameraman Dainis Juraga, film critic Anita Uzulniece and representative of the National Cinema Center, film industry information specialist Kristīne Matīsa worked in the documentary commission.
