Soviet Figure Skater Alexander Zaitsev Denies Involvement in Sale of 1980 Olympic Gold Medal

In the United States, the gold medal of the Soviet figure skater Alexander Zaitsev, who won it at the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid, was sold. The athlete says that he has nothing to do with this.

The 1980 Winter Olympics gold medal sold for $93,748, according to RR Auction.

“I didn’t have them (medals), not even the Innsbruck medal. Rodnina and I lived together, we had a family. And after the divorce, all the medals remained with her parents, they were stored somewhere there. So I have no idea who sold these medals, I definitely have nothing to do with this, ”said Alexander Zaitsev to RIA Novosti.

The athlete won gold medals with Irina Rodnina twice – in 1976 and 1980.
