Soviet and Russian skier and biathlete Anfisa Reztsova died. TASS reports this with reference to Leonid Reztsov, the athlete’s ex-husband.
The former athlete was 58 years old. Reztsov reportedthat on October 15 she was hospitalized, and on October 19 she died without regaining consciousness. He did not specify the reasons for hospitalization.
Reztsova became a champion at three Olympics in two different sports. In 1988, she won gold in the cross-country skiing relay. In 1992, she won the biathlon sprint, and in 1994, the biathlon relay. Reztsova also won gold medals three times at the World Ski Championships.
In 1992 and 1993, Reztsova won the Biathlon World Cup. She is the only athlete who competed under the Russian flag who succeeded.
