The cooperation between Exxon Mobil and Pertamina, said Retno, is expected to encourage downstreaming and utilization of processing technology for Pertamina to increase production, refineries or refinery, and petrochemicals as well as expanding market access for value-added oil and gas derivative products.
Opportunities for cooperation in reducing emissions and Indonesia’s energy transition through green technologies, such as carbon capture and other decarbonization efforts, were also discussed at the meeting.
“Of course we will continue this discussion when we attend the COP 26 meeting in Glasgow next November. Of course we hope that the MOU between Pertamina and ExxonMobil can be implemented immediately,” said Retno.
On the same occasion, Deputy Minister I of SOEs Pahala Mansury explained, this collaboration between Pertamina and Exxon Mobil is a continuation of cooperation after previously having established cooperation in upstream development.
In this collaboration, said Pahala, it consists of downstream cooperation and the use of technology, including infrastructure development to ensure energy in Indonesia can have access to better downstream infrastructure.
“We have a strategic partnership with ExxonMobil, especially in upstream development. And the signing of downstream or downstream energy will complete the cooperation between Pertamina and Exxon Mobil as the largest energy company in the world today,” explained Pahala.
