Southwest has the most e-charging points of all major states – Baden-Württemberg

Stuttgart / Berlin (dpa / lsw) – Baden-Württemberg is ahead of the large federal states in expanding the charging network for electric cars, if you put the size of a state in relation to the number of public e-charging points. The Federal Association of Energy and Water Management (BDEW) reported on Tuesday an average of 173 for the south-west when it came to coverage with public charging points on every 1000 square kilometers in a federal state. This means that users of electric cars in Baden-Württemberg have, on average, the greatest chances of finding a charging station among the regional states.

The situation in North Rhine-Westphalia (161) is similarly good, but Hesse (112), Bavaria (103) and Saarland (86) are clearly lagging behind in the other places. The coverage with publicly accessible charging points is still greatest in the three city states of Hamburg (1538), Berlin (1521) and Bremen (632). The data comes from the nationwide “charging station register”, which the BDEW also operates. They show the situation in late October / early November.

In absolute numbers, Baden-Württemberg has increased the number of its charging points by 51 percent within one year and, with 6186 registered charging points, is in second place behind Bavaria (7267). Throughout Germany, drivers of electric vehicles can now tap electricity at 33 107 public charging points. This means that more than 5300 new charging points have been added since April, according to the BDEW.
