Gareth Southgate not satisfied with just passing to Euro 2020 semifinals. The manager challenged England National Team to be a champion. Dare?
England advanced to the last four after beating Ukraine 4-0 in the Euro 2020 quarter-final match, Sunday (4/7/2021) early morning WIB. This is England’s second straight semifinal after the 2018 World Cup.
The difference is, England’s performance is currently getting better from the group phase. After scoring only two goals from three preliminary matches, England beat Germany 2-0 in the round of 16.
A total of four wins from five plus matches without conceding shows that England are no longer clumsy with their superior status. The attacking line that had stagnated has now scored six goals from two knockout matches.
Seeing his team again in high confidence, Southgate did not want England to be satisfied with only facing Denmark in the semifinals. For him, The Three Lions must become European champions for the first time.
“We don’t want to back down again. We want to take this opportunity to be champions rather than just relying on fate or wishing to be champions. I think the players were so deadly and extraordinary last night,” said Southgate at Sky Sports.
“It’s amazing. I still can’t believe we’re through again to the semi-finals – three in three years.”
“We want to be champions. I knew it would be at home. It was nice to see everyone holding a beer on a Saturday night. They should enjoy it. They have been waiting for this for a long time. The last two performances have made everyone happy.”
“I’m thinking about the next challenge. We’ve never been to a European Cup final. Time to make history again.”
Laga England vs Denmark will be held at Wembley, Thursday (8/7/2021) early morning WIB. Want to keep up with the fanfare Euro 2020, please see here.
