Bengaluru: The Duleep Trophy Champions of the Southern Region defeated the star-studded Western Region. The win was by 75 runs. Score Summary: South Region 213, 230. West Region 146-222. Vidwat Kaverappa of South Region took seven wickets in the first innings and one in the second innings.
In the second innings, South Region set a target of 298 runs ahead of West Region. But it was for the South Zone to tie the West Zone with some solid bowling. Yesterday, Western region continued to bat at 182 runs for five wickets. Captain Priyank Panchal was at the crease with 92 runs and Atheet Shethum was at the crease without taking any runs. Priyank Panchal who added three more runs to the previous day’s score was the first to be dismissed yesterday. Ricky Bhui caught off Kawerappa. The captain scored 95 runs off 211 balls with 11 fours. The South Zone struck without hitting the subsequent batters. Western Region lost their seventh wicket in the form of Shams Mulani when the team score reached 195. Next up was Dharmendra Singh Jadeja who showed signs of resistance. Jadeja was caught by Washington Sundar off Sai Kishore with 15 runs off 32 balls. Chintan Gaja was kicked out by Sai Kishore before he opened his account. This time Kaushik took the catch.
Atheet Sheth, who remained unbeaten yesterday, entered the tent as the last batter with nine runs off 57 balls. Sai Kishore Sheth was brought to the hands of Washington Sundar and set the stage for the innings. In the second innings, Vasuki Kaushik and Sai Kishore took four wickets each and played a crucial role in the victory of South Region. Vidwat Kaverappa and Vijayakumar Vysakh took one wicket each.
