Southern Rail Chaos: Floods Disrupt 22 Services

Southern Thailand Railway Routes Rerouted Due to Severe Flooding

Bangkok, Thailand – The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has announced significant changes to its southern rail services due to the ongoing torrential rains and severe flooding affecting the region. Effective immediately, several train routes have been rerouted, with others temporarily suspended.

The SRT has stressed that passenger safety is its top priority in these challenging conditions.

Several long-distance express trains serving Southern Thailand have had their routes altered, now terminating in Phatthalung, a city located further north than their original destinations. Express train 169/170, originally running between Bangkok Apiwat and Yala, will now operate between Bangkok Apiwat and Phatthalung. Local trains connecting Chumphon to Hat Yai Junction (number 445/446), Surat Thani to Su-ngai Kolok (number 447/448), and Nakhon Si Thammarat with both Su-ngai Kolok and Yala (numbers 451/452 and 455/456) have all undergone similar rerouting, now terminating in Phatthalung.

Heavy flooding

In addition to these route changes, the SRT has also announced the temporary suspension of twelve car parades traveling to and from various destinations. This likely refers to special express trains mostly serving popular long-distance routes, including Bangkok Apiwat to Hat Yai Junction (numbers 31/32), Bangkok Apiwat to Su-ngai Kolok (numbers 37/38), Bangkok Apiwat to Padang Besar (numbers 45/46), Bangkok Apiwat to Su-ngai Kolok (numbers 171/172), and also local train 463/464 running between Phatthalung and Su-ngai Kolok. Additionally, express cargo train 985/986 between Bangkok (Hua Lamphong) and Su-ngai Kolok has been suspended.

This disruption to rail services will undoubtedly impact travelers and businesses reliant on these crucial transportation links. While the SRT works to restore normalcy, commuters and passengers are advised to consult official announcements for the latest service updates and seek alternative transportation options where necessary.
