Southampton vs Man City: Manchester City keep treble hopes alive after thrashing Southampton

Manchester City are still dreaming of a treble this season after reaching the FA Cup semi-finals on Saturday, as they beat Southampton 4-1 at St Mary’s. Pep Guardiola‘s side can now plan for their semi-final at Wembley.

Although Guardiola made some changes to his starting XI, there were plenty of regulars lining up from the start and Raheem Sterling put them ahead inside a quarter of an hour, netting after just 12 minutes.

The only surprise of the day came in the form of the Saints not trailing at the break, going in level thanks to an Aymeric Laporte own goal in first-half stoppage time.

Relentless City

Kevin De Bruyne restored City‘s lead with a penalty shortly after the hour mark, though, before Phil Foden and Riyad Mahrez both struck within three minutes of one another to kill things off. Foden‘s strike was his 11th of the season, half as many as Mahrez has managed so far.
