Muaradua (ANTARA) – South Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) District Health Service, South Sumatra is preventing the spread of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DBD) through fogging or fumigation efforts to kill the mosquitoes that spread the epidemic.
Head of the South OKU Health Service (Dinkes), Meri Astuti in Muaradua, Friday, said that although cases of dengue fever had not been found in the area, prevention efforts needed to be taken so that no one in the community suffered from dengue fever.

According to him, although fogging is not the main prevention method, it is considered effective for quickly eradicating adult Aedes aegypti mosquitoes.
Fumigation efforts are being carried out in stages in areas considered prone to dengue fever so that mosquitoes do not breed.
Apart from that, he said, the South OKU Health Office through all community health centers in the area distributed abate fluids free of charge to the people in the area.
“Fogging activities and distribution of abates have been carried out in 19 sub-districts in South OKU Regency since early January 2024,” he said.

The community is also asked to implement the 3M pattern, namely draining and closing water reservoirs and burying used goods so that dengue fever does not spread widely.
Apart from that, he continued, people are advised to avoid mosquito bites as much as possible by sleeping using mosquito nets or turning on mosquito repellent at home.
“This method is also considered very effective in preventing dengue fever from spreading to the community, especially children,” he said.
