“South Stream” is over and Bulgaria can be sued for it – 2024-09-20 09:14:22

/ world today news/ For Bulgaria, “South Stream” is over. The former energy minister Rumen Ovcharov is convinced of this. In an interview with Nova TV, he categorically rejected any hypothesis of hand-wringing and bluffing on the part of Russia.

Now I see no reason for Russia to build “South Stream” through Turkey, added Ovcharov.

According to Rumen Ovcharov, Putin’s account is not accurate. From the suspension of the project, we lose not 400 million euros, but 600 million dollars, or 900 million leva. With them, he calculated, we can annually increase pensions by 10% or provide the Christmas supplements for pensioners, for which 50 million BGN were needed this year.

There is something that we slightly miss, noted Rumen Ovcharov. Putin said he was putting all the blame on the Bulgarian side. Bulgaria has signed an intergovernmental agreement for this project. This means that Bulgaria can be sued for damages. So it’s not a bad thing for someone to think about that too, he said.

Obviously, we put ourselves in this situation, concluded the former energy minister.

Bulgaria is the only country that allowed itself not to protect its national interest. The Bulgarian government did not consolidate the opinions of all European countries and did not explain to the EC that it should judge with the same arshin – both for “North Stream” and “South Stream”, Rumen Ovcharov added.
