Benin and Rwanda are strengthening their bilateral cooperation by signing agreements in nine different areas, on the occasion of President Paul Kagame’s state visit to Benin. The two countries agreed to strengthen their military cooperation in the fight against the terrorist threat in the Sahel region, as well as to continue to collaborate in technical cooperation and exchanges of specialized cadres.

President Kagame commended President Talon’s leadership in implementing a multi-sectoral response tailored to the terrorist threat and also stressed the importance of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. The presence of Rwandans in positions of high responsibility in Benin was discussed, and the two Heads of State underlined their determination to strengthen the exchange of skills between the two countries.

President Talon expressed his pride in seeing the skills of his fellow citizens improve and in seeing them stay in the country to serve their country. President Kagame’s state visit to Benin thus strengthens cooperation between the two countries in various fields, ranging from military cooperation to investment promotion, technical cooperation and exchanges of skills. This illustrates the importance of South-South cooperation for Africa’s economic and social development.
