South Korea’s Yang Ji-in wins gold in women’s 25m pistol

Chateauroux. South Korea’s Yang Ji-in won gold in the women’s 25-meter pistol event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on Saturday after a tiebreaker duel with France’s Camille Jedrzejewski, who took silver.

Yang and Jedrzejewski were tied on 37 points for first place, forcing a playoff, which the Korean won 4-1 in her Olympic debut at the Châteauroux Shooting Centre.

“This gold medal has proven that I am the best in the world right now,” said Yang, who wears glasses. “I will have to train harder to try to raise the flag higher once again in Los Angeles (in 2028).”

Home favourite Jedrzejewski said she struggled to control her emotions in the final shots.

“I lost maybe because my emotions were running high, but I’m happy with my silver,” she said. “There was a lot of excitement in the hall and it was a really intense competition.”

Hungary’s Veronika Major also won bronze in the tiebreaker, denying India’s Manu Bhaker a third medal at the Paris Games.

“I was really happy to get to the final in first place,” Major said. “It’s the best moment of my career so far.”
