indopos.co.id – Vaccine experts in China remind countries in the world to be more rational in dealing with cases of death due to influenza vaccination in South Korea.
“There is no evidence to suggest that these deaths were due to the flu shot. However, there are several countries that have suddenly stopped their flu vaccination program, and that is very unfortunate, ”said Tao Lina, a vaccine expert from Shanghai, as quoted by local media, Wednesday (28/10/2020).
At least 59 people in South Korea have died after receiving their seasonal flu vaccine. The South Korean government, Monday (26/10), stated that the deaths were not related to mass vaccinations and that the vaccination program would continue.
However, several countries in Asia panicked. Singapore on Sunday (25/10/2020) said it had temporarily stopped the use of vaccines such as those used by South Korea.
“Countries must remain vigilant about new vaccines on the market later and remind the public to be rational about the flu vaccine which will actually help fight COVID-19 this year, said Tao.
In South Korea, the flu vaccine is given to face the winter just like in China. However, in some regions of China the demand for flu vaccines has increased compared to two years ago which was an average of only two percent.
As of September 8, health facilities in China injected 15.87 million doses of the flu vaccine. Some observers estimate that this year it will reach 50 million doses.
This year’s vaccination rate will hit 4 percent, as Feng Luzhao, a public health expert at Peking Union Medical College, estimates. (Ant / RUL)
