South Korean volleyball league paralyzed for two weeks due to COVID-19 case

The South Korean Volleyball Federation (KOVO) announced that the men’s league will be suspended for at least two weeks after what a player tested positive for coronavirus.

The suspension of the tournament is immediate and affects the match scheduled for this Tuesday between the Hyundai Capital Skywalkers y KEPCO Vixtorm.

The decision was made hours after Jin Park, KB Insurance Stars player, will test positive for COVID-19. Park, 30, began to suffer from a fever on Monday and was immediately subjected to a PCR test, according to the Yonhap agency.

Park’s team last played on Sunday, February 21, against OK Financial Group OKman, and both players and technical teams from both teams will be tested today.

If no more positives are detected among technicians and players of the seven teams that make up the men’s V-League, the season will resume next March 9, according to KOVO.

The women’s league will continue to play as normal as long as the league officials and staff who officiated the Stars-OKman in which Park played over the weekend test negative for COVID-19.

It is the second time that a positive has forced a temporary suspension of the men’s V-League. On January 1, a camera operator who recorded days before a men’s league match tested positive and both this tournament and the women’s tournament were paralyzed for three days until referees, players, technicians and administrative staff (about 1,500 people in total) tested all negative.
