President of South Korea Yoon Suk Yeol visited Ukraine on Saturday (15/7). After visiting, Yoon Suk Yeol also promised to expand the scale of non-lethal military humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.
Reported by AFP, Saturday (15/7/2023), the world’s ninth largest arms exporter, South Korea, does have a long-term policy of not supplying lethal weapons to active conflict zones. However, he will still provide assistance such as helmets to bulletproof vests for Ukraine.
“Seoul “will expand its supply scale from last year, when we provided materials such as helmets and bulletproof vests,” Yoon said.
Yoon further added that the humanitarian aid will be increased to $150 million in 2023, compared to $100 million last year. He made the announcement at a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Zelensky also thanked Yoon. “Thank you for the meaningful talk. Thank you for your strong support,” Zelensky said at the joint briefing.
Zelensky then revealed the conversation between the two when they met in Ukraine. He mentioned talks related to security to aid for Ukraine.
“We talked about everything that is important for people to live a normal and safe life,” Zelensky told reporters.
“Thank you for your new initiative to provide financial, technical and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine,” he continued without elaborating.
The Ukrainian leader also praised the transfer of mine vehicles and equipment that helped Ukraine save many lives.
