South Korean Navy Assigns Female Soldiers to Submarines for the First Time

Starting this year, female soldiers will be assigned to South Korean Navy submarines.

Nine female military officers and non-commissioned officers completed basic training for the first time.

Our country is the 14th country in the world to have female soldiers aboard naval submarines.

The Korean Navy’s newest submarine, the Dosan Ahn Chang-ho, moves forward without hesitation through strong currents.

It gradually disappears beneath the water to dive.

For the first time in the Korean Navy, female crew members will be assigned to the 3,000-ton Dosan Ahn Chang-ho and other ships.

This is the 14th time in the world to have female submariners, following Norway, Australia, the United States, and Japan.

″I am proud as a member of the submarine force, a national strategic asset, and if the enemy provokes me, I will immediately and strongly punish it underwater to the end.″

In addition to opinions on expanding the role of female soldiers, new submarines have been equipped with spaces for female soldiers to work, such as bedrooms and shower facilities exclusively for female soldiers, making it possible for female soldiers to be deployed on submarines.

A total of nine female officers and non-commissioned officers have completed basic submarine crew training for the first time.

″In order to cultivate the best submarine crews, we conducted intensive education and training regardless of gender. During the actual training, the female soldiers had a unique attitude and were very eager to learn.”

Female officers assigned to submarines are responsible for collecting and analyzing submarine navigation and operation information, while non-commissioned officers are responsible for operating sonar, an underwater sonar system, as well as radar and combat system equipment.
