SEOUL (Reuters) – The South Korean military said Thursday it had taken off fighter jets after sighting about 180 North Korean military planes near the de facto border with North Korea.
The South Korean military said North Korean planes flew four hours north of a tactical line drawn up to 20 kilometers north of the military demarcation line. The South Korean Air Force took off 80 aircraft, including the latest F-35A stealth fighter.
About 240 aircraft that participated in the ongoing large-scale joint air exercise “Vigilant Storm” with the US military continued the training.
Last month 10 North Korean military planes flew and the South Korean army climbed.
North Korea launched missiles on the 2nd and 3rd. The South Korean army announced that around 80 bullets were fired near the sea border late at night on the 3rd.
