AGI – The South Korean actor died by suicide at the age of 48 Lee Sun-kyun, protagonist of ‘Parasite’, the film that won the Oscars in 2020 with six statuettes including the one for best foreign film. The lifeless body was found in his car, in the park of a northern neighborhood of Seoul, after his wife had raised the alarm following the discovery of the suicide note, a sort of will from Lee.
In October, the actor was reported by a hostess who reported that he had smoked joints and used ketamine, a powerful anesthetic, with him, very serious charges in South Korea where one risks up to five years in prison for the simple drug use. Lee defended himself by claiming that he did not know they were illegal substances and denied having ever taken part in parties. The 48-year-old had already been interviewed three times by the police in Incheon. The last interrogation, last Saturday, lasted for 19 hours.

The discovery of Lee Sun-kyun’s body
Mister Park played by Lee was one of the most iconic characters in ‘Parasite’, the black splatter comedy directed by Bong Joon-ho which sees the humble Kim family introduce themselves like parasites into the routine of a bourgeois family, the Parks.
The South Korean entertainment world has canceled numerous events as a sign of mourning for the actor. Director Byun Young-joo, who worked with Lee on the 2012 thriller “Helpless,” remembered him with an all-black image on her Instagram account.
Lee was married to actress Jeon Hye-jin and they had two young children. Among his films there are also “All About My Wife” and “Sleep” (presented out of competition at the last Cannes Film Festival), as well as numerous appearances on TV. The court case had already cost him the removal from some advertisements and the exclusion from the new series “No way out”, a TV series whose filming began last October.
