South Korea, US, and Japan to Share North Korean Missile Warning Information in Real Time

South Korea, the United States, and Japan have agreed to operate a system to share North Korean missile warning information in real time among the three countries within this year.

Defense Minister Lee Jong-seop, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, and Japanese Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada held a trilateral defense ministers meeting at the Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore today (3rd) and agreed on such joint responses to North Korea’s nuclear and missile threats.

Currently, a real-time government sharing system is in operation between Korea and the United States and between the United States and Japan, but there is no such system between the Korean military and the Japanese Self-Defense Forces, so information is shared through the United States.

The three countries also reaffirmed their policy of condemning North Korea’s launch of military reconnaissance satellites using ballistic missile technology with one voice, and regularizing anti-submarine warfare training and maritime missile defense training that contribute to deterring the North Korean threat.
