South Korea Receives 700,000 Doses of Israeli Vaccine Almost Expired

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

South Korea will receive 700 thousand doses Covid-19 vaccine from Israel almost expired through a barter agreement signed on Tuesday (6/7).

Under the agreement, Israel will send 700,000 doses which will be used immediately by South Korea because the expiration date falls at the end of this month.

In return, Israel will receive 700,000 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine that South Korea is currently ordering.

“We agreed to an exchange which is a win-win situation. South Korea will receive the vaccine from our stock and will be repaid with their next order,” Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett was quoted as saying. The Times of Israel.

The deal was reached shortly after Israel said it planned to destroy 800,000 doses of its near-expired Covid-19 vaccine if there was no buyer.

Israel Public Broadcasting Company (KAN) reported that Israel will destroy the vaccine if no country is willing to buy it past the expiration date.

News agency Anatolia reported that the 800,000 vaccines were actually part of a swap deal with the Palestinians.

Under the agreement, Israel will provide about 1 million doses of Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine to Palestine.

Instead, the Palestinians will send one million doses of Pfizer vaccine to Israel from packages scheduled to arrive in September or October.

However, the Palestinians canceled the agreement because the vaccine that Israel would send was nearing its expiration date.

Israel itself is known as one of the countries in the world with the most successful Covid-19 vaccination program.

To date, about 59.9 percent of the population in Israel is fully vaccinated. Meanwhile, the total vaccine that has been injected has reached 10.8 million doses.

With high vaccination rates and a decrease in Covid-19 transmission, Israel has had time to allow its citizens to remove masks when doing activities, both indoors and outdoors.

However, when the Covid-19 case in Israel spiked again due to the emergence of the Delta variant, the government again required its citizens to wear masks indoors.
