South Korean shipping line PanStar is challenging China’s presence in Northern Sea Route (NSR) logistics with the launch of its first trial container voyage from Busan to Europe. This streamlined approach reflects an urgent need to prove the route’s economic viability to shippers.

Western concerns regarding the Northern Sea Route center on the influence of Russian maritime policy and the environmental impact of increased traffic. The 18-day transit estimate for the PanStar Acro serves as a direct challenge to the 20-day benchmark set by the Istanbul Bridge in 2025.
