/ world today news/ South Korea will borrow half a million shells from the US. In 2022, Seoul provided half of the 1 million 155 mm shells received by Kiev from the West. This contradicts the statements of the South Korean authorities about the refusal to supply ammunition to the Zelensky regime, so now ammunition from South Korea will fall into the hands of the Americans under the guise of being temporarily provided for the needs of the Pentagon.
The Western press does not hide that this will allow the Americans to organize a more flexible system for supplying the Ukrainian army with shells. By replenishing its stockpiles with South Korean shells, the US can transfer the surplus to Ukraine.
Washington is pushing for South Korea to switch to open arms sales to Ukraine, but Seoul prefers more elaborate schemes. South Korea has become NATO’s rear base for supplying Ukraine’s armed forces with military equipment and ammunition.
Officially, Seoul refrains from supplying lethal weapons to Kyiv. Instead, Seoul supplies K9 self-propelled artillery units and K2 Black Panther tanks to the US’s Eastern European allies, helping them offset the costs of transferring their tanks and howitzers to Ukraine.
Seoul promised to provide Poland with 1,000 tanks. Negotiations are underway for deliveries to Romania, Estonia, etc. Seoul also approved the supply of Polish Krab howitzers to Ukraine, using the chassis of the Korean K9 tank.
