From April 28, South Korea will not supply new cars and spare parts to Belarus that cost more than $50,000. This decision of the local government was recently announced by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of the Republic of Korea.
As explained in the South Korean department, new cars were included in an extended list of goods prohibited from deliveries to Russia and Belarus in connection with the war in Ukraine. Now it has not 57 positions, as before, but 798, and in addition to expensive cars, many auto parts have been banned.
In addition, the list included products related to semiconductors, as well as the chemical, steel and engineering industries, and quantum computers. All these goods, according to the South Korean authorities, “can be used for military purposes”, despite the fact that most of them are formally civilian goods, transmits Russian automotive portal Drom with reference to Korean media.
According to the statement of the South Korean Ministry of Commerce, the department will monitor the implementation of the ban on supplies, as well as to ensure that the sanctioned goods do not enter Belarus or Russia through third countries. At the same time, they noted that “in exceptional cases” a permit will be issued for the export of goods from the sanctions list.
According to South Korean media, the ban does not apply to the export of used cars.
