South Korea and the United States fired eight missiles from South Korea’s east coast during the night from Sunday to Monday. They did that in response to missile tests by North Korea on Sunday.
The firing of the missiles demonstrates “the ability and readiness to conduct precision strikes,” South Korean military said to news agency Yonhap.
New South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol takes a tougher line on North Korea. North Korea has conducted more missile tests in recent months, including large intercontinental ballistic missiles. According to Yoon Suk-yeol, North Korea’s tests and nuclear weapons threaten peace in the region and the world.
South Korean President and US President Joe Biden agreed at a meeting in Seoul in May to conduct more frequent joint military exercises to deter North Korea.
