South Korea and the United States will begin joint exercises in the second half of the year with greatly expanded outdoor maneuvering exercises from tomorrow.
The combined exercise of the Ulchi Shield of Freedom, which runs until the 31st, is ″implemented reflecting North Korea’s advanced nuclear and missile capabilities and intentions, as well as the changed security situation,″ the Ministry of National Defense announced.
During this training period, South Korea and the U.S. plan to conduct more than 30 large-scale outdoor maneuvers, including joint landing drills, more than doubling from last year’s 13.
The U.S. mainland space force will participate for the first time in this joint exercise, and it is said that the deployment of U.S. strategic assets such as the B-1B strategic bomber to the Korean Peninsula is also being considered.
In addition, it is known that the joint exercise will include countermeasures against fake news that North Korea may distribute in times of war or emergency.
Ten member countries of the UNC, including Australia, Canada, France and the United Kingdom, will also participate.
