Road tax in South Holland will rise by 3.9 percentage points to 95.7% next year, the largest increase of all twelve provinces. This was reported by Statistics Netherlands (CBS). The rate will also increase in Limburg, Gelderland, Utrecht, North Brabant and Groningen. Road tax will remain the same in the other six provinces.
Due to the increase in South Holland, that province, together with Groningen, is the most expensive. The lowest rate is in North Holland at 67.9%.
Due to the increases, the provinces together expect to be able to collect around 67 million euros more in stamp duty than this year. Total revenue is likely to amount to €1.8 billion, or 3.8% more than this year.
The national government also collects road tax and expects to receive 4.5 billion euros next year. This is 3.5% more than this year.
The income of both the national government and the provinces is somewhat depressed by the rise of electric cars. Those who drive fully electric do not pay the road tax, while some hybrids are partially exempt.
