SOUTH-EAST ASIA – PANDEMIC: Update on Covid-19 as of July 11

Thailand

As of July 11, Thailand has reported 9,539 new cases, 18 people on repatriation flights and in state quarantine centers and 9,521 via local transmissions; with 86 deaths reported; the totals stand at 336,371 infections and 2,711 deaths since the start of the pandemic. 85,689 people are currently being treated for the coronavirus and 247,971 people have been cured.

CCSA spokesperson Dr Thaveesilp Visanuyothin announced an increase in the number of patients with severe symptoms to 2,738, including 717 on ventilators.

Meanwhile, 83,072 people received their first injection of Covid-19 vaccine in the past 24 hours, while 10,212 people received their second injection, bringing the total number of Covid-19 vaccine doses administered in Thailand at 12,469,188.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has ordered airlines to suspend domestic flights between 9 p.m. and 4 a.m., in line with a nighttime curfew imposed in Greater Bangkok and four southern border provinces .

Phuket’s domestic travel restrictions for Thais and foreigners residing in Thailand will come into effect on July 15, 2021. The province of Phuket has new entry regulations in place, according to which anyone entering the province must either be with a negative COVID-19 test certificate, either be fully vaccinated or have received at least one dose of AstraZeneca vaccine at least 14 days prior to arrival. People who are not fully vaccinated are required to present a negative RT-PCR or Antigen COVID-19 test certificate with the test performed no more than 7 days before arrival.

Vietnam

Vietnam recorded 598 new cases and two deaths on July 10, bringing the total to 26,608 and 112 deaths.

Vietnam aims to vaccinate 50% of people aged 18 or over by the end of this year and 70% by the end of March 2022, according to the health ministry.

Singapore

Singapore registered 8 new cases on July 11, bringing the total to 62,692 cases among 36 deaths.

Singapore will ease restrictions to fight COVID-19 from Monday amid declining community infections.

Restaurant meals will be permitted for groups of up to five people, maskless indoor sports may resume, and wedding receptions may take place with a maximum of 250 people if pre-event testing is in place. Social gatherings in the workplace may also resume, although working from home should remain the priority, the health ministry said on Wednesday.

Burma

Burma reported 4,377 new cases and 71 deaths on July 10, bringing the total to 188,752 cases and 3,756 deaths

Brunei

Brunei reported 4 new cases on July 6, bringing the total to 266 cases with three deaths.

Cambodia

Cambodia recorded 981 new cases and 21 deaths on July 11, bringing the total to 60,959 cases and 902 deaths.

In the past 2 weeks, Cambodia has seen a sharp rise in deaths with an increase of over 30% over this period.

815 new recoveries were announced today, which means the total active cases again edged up to 7,575.

Indonesia

Indonesia recorded 35,094 new cases and 826 deaths on July 10, bringing the total to 2,491,006 cases and 65,457 deaths.

Indonesia plans to give booster shots of Moderna to health workers. The country’s chief economy minister Airlangga Hartarto and health minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin announced the decision on Friday. These third injections will cover 1.47 million health workers.

Indonesia is expanding travel restrictions across the country. Severe restrictions will be in place until July 20. The measures include a 75% work-from-home requirement for non-essential sectors, closing mosques and churches, and closing at 5 p.m. for malls and restaurants, except for take-out. Areas outside of “level 4” emergency areas will have more flexible restrictions.

Laos

Laos registered 89 new cases on July 11, bringing the total to 2,719 cases with three deaths.

Malaysia

Malaysia registered 9,105 new cases on July 11, bringing the total to 836,296 cases. 6,067 deaths had been declared on July 10.

The country has administered more than 300,000 vaccines per day since July 5. More than 22% of eligible people received at least one dose while 9.75% were fully vaccinated by July 8.

Philippines

The Philippines reported 5,675 new cases and 96 deaths on July 10, bringing the total to 1,467,119 cases and 25,816 deaths.
