South Carolina Senator Tim Scott Supports Donald Trump for President, Undermining Nikki Haley’s Position

South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, who previously ran for the Republican nomination for US President, supported another candidate, Donald Trump.

“We need a president who will close our southern border. We need President Donald Trump. We need a president who will unite our country. We need President Donald Trump. I support the next President of the United States, Donald Trump,” Scott said Friday during Trump’s speech to supporters in New Hampshire.

As The New York Times previously noted, such a decision by Scott will undermine the positions of the former US permanent representative to the UN and the former governor of South Carolina Nikki Haley, which took third place in the Republican primary elections (caucuses) in Iowa, receiving 19.1% of the vote. The publication adds that Haley and the Florida governor also tried to get support from Scott, who is “extremely popular among Republicans.” Ron Desantis.

Scott announced his withdrawal from the race on November 12, 2023.

Iowa’s primary elections took place on Monday. According to the voting results, Trump received 51% of the votes from Republican Party supporters. DeSantis came in second with 21.2% of the vote, and Haley came in third with 19.1%.
